If you are ever in the middle of a construction or renovation project and you find one of these on your door, it's never a good sign because it means....
Yes, on Wednesday, we got the orange slip. We had made so much progress and things were looking great, that is until my very elderly and very ornary neighbor next door decided to contest the property line, claiming that my pretty little retaining wall was built on her property. She never came to us to discuss the situation or to see a copy of our survey from when we purchased the house, but rather decided to call the city and have them come out and check things out. Thus, we received the orange slip (and a very big headache).
Another survey was ordered and sadly, we had never removed the stakes (the wooden ones with the bright pink stuff on them) from when we had them done last year because they were placed in overgrown monkey grass and you couldn't really see them. This made it rather easy for the surveyors, I now have 2 stakes in the ground, that butt up to one another. It was really amusing and very frustrating at the same time. The neighbors were satisfied that the survey revealed the wall was no where near their property line and late this afternoon the city lifted our orange notice. So, we lost 2 very nice weather days to the most ridiculous thing ever. Can you tell that I am still very annoyed by this!

Oh, that stinks! Sorry you've had to deal with that. We have a grouchy older neighbors on one side, and they drive us crazy...they would do the same kind of thing if we were building a retaining wall!
That is so annoying! I think you are across the street from my brother-in-law's sister...Betsy McAtee. This week is supposed to be very nice so hopefully more work can be done!

glad yall got it all worked out...what a disaster! i cannot believe the neighbor would not talk to yall first. we used to have some neighbors very similar to yours...old and ornary...and thankfully they moved!
Yoi should totally thank the neighbor by leaving a flaming bag of dog poop on her front stoop. (Yes I am a vengeful 13 year old boy, thank you very much.)

No, I actually haven't done it, but have always wanted to. My favorite thing to do to people is just to let the air out of their tires.
